7 May 2008 1637 hr The trip home will be in 4 days time and I’m quite excited as, I guess who wouldn’t be after going through 3 weeks here in Thailand. The fact that I’ve spent 3 weeks here in Thailand has been such an eye-opening experience both in term of weather and living condition. I guess the weather wasn’t as bad as it seems. Ok fine, it gets real bad when it’s bad, but on a good day, the weather here is darn adaptable. During the whole outfield exercises that we had, I guess we only had to brace through the hot sun for only ¼ of the time. Other than that, it was relatively cooling, though the night can get rather cold. Seriously, it gets colder when it rains during the night, which at most of the time, is the thing that happened. Luckily, we were constantly sheltered as we were allowed to pitch some sort of a shelter. What else can I say about the weather? I think a lot of people have this misconception that it does not rain here. Actually, it rains relatively regular, like in Singapore. Even if it doesn’t rain during the day, it rains in the night. So, I guess I didn’t have much complaint for the weather over here in Thailand. Oh, it can be rather dusty here though as the land are quite dry and sandy. It is kind of fine, like the one you find on the beach. It’s a pain to walk on it though when we had to travel from one place to another on such trail. The living condition here is rather terrible though. For others, it may be extremely hard to live in such a condition. Though for me, it’s something I’ve kind of experience when I have to live in such a condition whenever my family goes for a vacation to my relative’s house in Padang, Indonesia. Well it’s not like we were in the bunk for the whole 3 weeks though. ¾ of the time we’re out on the field doing god knows what. Anyway, I just wished that my section gets some fan because it can get really hot in the middle part of the longhouse. It sucks though because it can get really hot when the weather is unforgiving. Though on cold nights, it gets really cosy as it’s not so cold instead. I guess the living condition here could have been better as the other building that the other group is living in has better rooms and fans compared to the ‘long house’ we’re living in. It can get rather envious though. Oh anyway, before I missed out on this, the food here is awesome. Seriously, even the cookhouse food is great. Minus the crappy lunch we had on the first day though. There are loads of shops here, LAN shops and even PS2. I should’ve brought my PSP if I had known that we’d have a lot of free time here after training. To close things off, I guess there’s a lot of things that I don’t get to mention here as I am needed to be secretive about the things we do here. Though, I just got to say that you get to do things here that you will never get to do as a civilian. Even though there are some things you don’t even want to do if you had the choice. So with that, I’ll leave it at that. 3 weeks here have been rather fun. Made good friends with people that I couldn’t talk before if we had not gone through what we went through. With that, I’m grateful. arfandi used up his time at 8:53 AM
